Level Descriptor, Programme Standards & Credits

Programme Standards

Each CLE programme is assigned a level that reflects a specific degree of complexity and intellectual challenge. Levels are determined by mapping the knowledge and skills requirements of the programme against the sophisticated standards of the professional workplace, ensuring that every stage corresponds to a distinct tier of career capability. These descriptors are defined by the outcomes of learning — representing the competencies expected to be known, understood, and demonstrated within a professional business environment — rather than the instructional methods or assessment techniques through which they are achieved.

Level 4 Descriptor

Entry Requirements

Who Should Apply?

To ensure learners are prepared for the rigour of Level 4 study, applicants should typically meet one of the following entry profiles.

Academic Route

A relevant Level 3 qualification or GCE Advanced Levels (A-Levels) in a related or complementary discipline.

Professional Route

Mature learners (typically aged 19+) with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience may be considered under the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) framework.

English Language

Applicants must have a good command of written and spoken English sufficient to complete assignments and engage with theoretical texts. This can be evidenced through previous studies in English or by working in a professional environment where English is the primary language of communication.

Assessment Strategy

How You Are Assessed

All units are assessed through a rigorous written assignment model designed to develop and demonstrate sound analytical thinking and practical management capability.

Written Assignments

Each of the six units is assessed via a written assignment, typically 2,000–2,500 words. Assignments are professionally structured and require learners to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world or scenario-based business contexts.

Grading Framework

All units are graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction. To achieve a Pass, a learner must meet all specified Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria for that unit. Merit and Distinction reflect increasingly sophisticated levels of analysis and application.

Pass Merit Distinction
Internal Quality Assurance

Maintaining the Standard

The programme is maintained through a rigorous internal quality system designed to ensure that the standard is consistently applied across all delivery methods and locations. Our IQA framework rests on three core pillars.

01

Standardisation & Assessment

Assessors attend regular standardisation meetings to ensure a shared understanding of the grading criteria. This ensures that a Distinction awarded by one tutor meets the same high standard as one awarded by another, regardless of location or delivery route.

02

Verification Cycles

A dedicated Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) reviews a selection of marked assignments to ensure that the feedback provided to learners is constructive and that the marks awarded are accurate and consistent with programme standards.

03

Continuous Programme Review

The curriculum is reviewed annually against current industry trends. Feedback is gathered from tutors, delivery partners, and learners to update theoretical content and case studies — ensuring the programme remains a modern and prestigious professional credential.
