Level & Standards

Level Descriptor, Programme Standards & Credits

Each CLE programme is assigned a level that reflects a specific degree of complexity and intellectual challenge. Levels are determined by mapping the knowledge and skills requirements of the programme against the sophisticated standards of the professional workplace, ensuring that every stage corresponds to a distinct tier of career capability. These descriptors are defined by the outcomes of learning — representing the competencies expected to be known, understood, and demonstrated within a professional business environment — rather than the instructional methods or assessment techniques through which they are achieved.

As a Level 5 programme, this offering is characterised by the requirement for students to demonstrate analytical, speculative, and evaluative skills.

Knowledge Descriptor: The holder possesses a deep theoretical and practical understanding of business management. They can evaluate different thoughts, interpret complex data, and identify strategic ways forward in broadly defined contexts.

Skill Descriptor: The holder can determine and adapt appropriate methods to address complex problems, use research to inform corporate actions, and evaluate the effectiveness of management strategies.

Programme Standards: This programme is a bespoke professional development offering designed and delivered by CLE. It is distinct from academic or nationally regulated qualifications frameworks and is developed and maintained in accordance with the CLE Professional Standards Framework.

CLE Credits: This programme carries 120 CLE Internal Credits, awarded through the CLE Internal Credit System — a structured framework that quantifies and acknowledges the competencies, applied knowledge, and leadership capabilities demonstrated by each learner. These credits are distinct from any national qualifications credits.

Entry Requirements

Who Should Apply?

To ensure learners are prepared for the rigour of Level 5 study, applicants should typically meet one of the following profiles:

Mature learners (typically aged 21+) with a minimum of two years of relevant supervisory or management experience.

Assessment Strategy

How You Are Assessed

Methodology

Maintaining the Standard

The programme is maintained through a rigorous internal quality system designed to ensure that the standard is consistently applied across all delivery methods. Our IQA framework consists of three core pillars:

01

Standardisation & Assessment

Assessors attend periodic standardisation meetings to ensure a shared understanding of the grading criteria. This ensures that a "Distinction" awarded by one tutor meets the same high standard as one awarded by another, regardless of location.

02

Verification Cycles

A dedicated Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) regularly reviews a selection of marked assignments. This process verifies that the feedback provided to learners is constructive and that the marks awarded are accurate and fair.

03

Continuous Programme Review

On an annual basis, the curriculum is reviewed against current industry trends. We gather feedback from tutors, collaborative partners, and learners to update theoretical content and case studies, ensuring the programme remains a modern and prestigious professional credential.
